Harry Mulisch "Zygfridas. Juodoji idilė"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I bought this book just because I was bloody bored at a mall waiting for my cat's surgery to end. The title and cover intrigued me so I bought it to read while waiting for my cat.
When I started reading it, I thought how bloody boring it is, but since I had nothing better to do and I was tired- I continued reading. As pages melted in my eyes, I got interested and wanted to know how everything will end. And I can say I already knew the ending, it was predictible book. But actually it ended not like I thought. In fact the last sentence of a book made me stunned for some minutes. Such a mysterious ending! In fact all book was so mysterious... Predictible and nothing special, but the end was amazing. It's hard to write how I liked this book not making a spoiler.
So, to say it simply: it was philosophical, predictible and mysterious book.
First pages make you want to put it away, but all interesting plot is just in the middle. And in fact... I have now such thought in my head: "What if this is truth what was said in the book?" What if....

Melvin Burgess "Vilko kauksmas"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

First I thought this book will be boring. But I really liked it. My opinion about wolves changed. In this book they are showed as very smart and independent creatures. I do not want to spoil, so I can just tell that it was very interesting book. I had such feelings reading it... I even cried reading some chapters. Of course it is a book for young teens, children, but and adults can enjoy it.

It changed me, I started to love wolves very much after this book. They are beautiful animals and when people kill them- it's really cruel and sad.

Anne Rice "The Witching Hour"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

When I took this book in my hands, I thought "1207 pages? I will never read it!". But my wish to read it was stronger than the number of pages. These pages melted in hours of my reading. I was too fascinated to count pages. I wanted just to know "What's next?".

As this amazing story went on, I stopped at the scene with Antha and read it twice, no, maybe 10 times till I memorized her words that fit 100% to myself: "You, know, the only thing I can be is a writer. I'm absolutely unprepared for anything else. When you've lived the kind of life I have, you are good for nothing. Only writing can save you." These words that made my heart race fast. It seems like Anne Rice took them from my head. From now on if somebody will tell me I'm good for nothing, I will quote this, because I can only write, the only thing I do really good. Next character that stuck in my head was Stella. I don't know why, but I named my second cat Stella. I simply liked the way Stella saw life. Pleasure and parties. That girl lived interesting life at least...

And my most favorite character of this book of course is.... JULIEN. Can I say he remind me of Lestat? Yes, he did. So, I think I don't need to explain why I like this character so much.

As for Rowan and Michael.... After "Blood Canticle" I didn't like Rowan at all. Now in this book, I changed my opinion, because I understood her life.

And for conclusion, I must say this book was really good. It inspired me from the first pages. I don't know how this feeling is called when you read a story about old ages and you feel...something...something like..nostalgia. When I read Anne Rice books I have this feeling, it makes me so calm, warm, sad and happy at once. I completely drown in her books and forget how much time is it, or if I'm hungry or need to go to sleep. In every of her books I ever read is this THING that makes me hypnotized. No other books I have ever read had any of such magic as Anne Rice writes. Every book of hers I take, I know it will drown me for hours in this weird feeling. I loved this book as I loved all her books and I will start "Lasher" to get this feeling back, it's like a drug.

Melvin Burgess "Hitas"

I bought this book as soon as I saw it in online bookstore. I didn‘t know one of my favorite writers wrote a new book. I immediately ordered it and waited to get it. When I got it, I started reading it while walking home from post office. Melvin Burgess is one of my favorite writers since I was a teen. I read all his books that are translated in Lithuanian. Even now, when I‘m adult, I still like to read his books. I buy every new book that appears in Lithuania like crazy and read it as fast as I can.
It‘s not the highest class book, but it has something in it that made me read it non-stop for two days. A plot is very intriguing, just thrilling! Somebody should make a movie by this book, it would great action movie. I had fun reading this for two days, it was amazing weekend!

Henrik Eberle "Laiškai Hitleriui"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Well, what to say about this book? I liked it very much. But because I'm very interested in German history, it is not easy to read so people who don't like serious books won't find it interesting. But for me it was big joy to read what simple people of Germany wrote to Hitler. It was something you'll never get to read at school.
I was also happy to find two letters from Lithuania. I was happy to see that author mentioned even some people from Lithuania who wrote to Hitler.
So, not much to say about this book. Some pages were boring, some interesting, some made me think how pathetic and crazy some people were to write such nonsences to Hitler when he didn't care at all about such idiots, and some people looked for benefits. So all book is full of different letters from different people, many of them sent poems: some sound stupid, some have good rhyme. So, this book s good if you want to know about simple people during WWII, to know what they thought and what they felt.

Balys Sruoga "Dievų miškas"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I was very happy when I saw this book in bookstores. I missed some historical books to read. Since I study medicine, but so love German history, I was very excited to read this book, because it was not only about war, but mostly about medicine. I was interested, that I couldn't put it so easily.
I would recommend it to everybody who loves history, especially World War II in Germany.

This book is very good, because has links to other books, a lot of dates and analysing. So for such people like me, who love to analyse history- this is perfect book. But the end of it, was quite intriguing, you would never think it will end like this. So I think it is good to discuss it. Well, in my opinion... I should agree with authors. I liked their writing style, conclusions, everything. One chapter made me laugh till I started crying. But I won't tell which and why. It just was funny. But just that one chapter, all book is very serious. In future I would really read more from these authors. They are amazing!

Dennis Lehane "Kuždesių sala"

I never read such detective stories, but I wanted to read this one. I remember that few years ago I saw movie on TV and I didn't understand it, it was hard to follow, and only now I bought a book. I was laying few months in my bookshelf, but suddenly I felt need to read it and when I started reading it- I couldn't stop. I read it all in three days, I was laying all days in bed and reading, reading, reading, because it was so interesting. Of course I did mistake that first I saw movie, so I already knew what gonna happen. But still it was very interesting book. It was impossible to go to sleep when so much interesting things were waiting for me in book.
But in the end of book, in last chapter, I got again confused like watching a movie.... I got lost because I cannot understand what was reality and what was imagined by main character. But it is good, because that what makes book interesting.

Anne Rice "Vittorio, the vampire"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

First it was very boring book. I don't know why. I left it for a while away while I was in Italy. When When I came back from Italy, I started reading this again and felt a different spirit for this book. It became interesting to me. Of course, my interest changed because I visited Florence and when I came back home, this book became easier for me to read, because I already was in that city where Vittorio was. It was easier to imagine scenes and revive my travel's memories. Of course, I had just few hours in Florence, it was already an evening, but I saw what made me... crazed. I was crying like mad in Florence because of art I saw, so I can understand why Vittorio so adored the art he saw in Florence. It is very hard to describe such art, but Anne Rice did this well in this book.

Maybe some scenes were boring a little bit. I get bored easily if I need to read about nature, weather and something like that. But in the end of the book, things changed. I was happy to read interesting tale. If I had to tell in one word what I think of this book, I would say "ARTISTIC". Rich in art, culture and history. It warmed my heart and soul.

I was looking for this book in my country very long. I finally found it and ordered immediately, because first time I got known to this story was Russian musical with my favorite singer Philip Kirkorov. He played Count Almaviva. Since that New Year night when I saw that musical, I got obssesed with this story. And I started reading this book in Lithuanian after so many years after that musical's premiere on TV. And I love this book. Drama, intrigues, jokes, passion- everything I love. I so love passionate dramas full of jealousy, love, missing parents and wegginds. It is a story of times when I wish I could live. But, unfortunately, I cannot return back in time. That's how I imagine 18th century, just like in this book.

Count Almaviva of course is my favorite. Just like me: jealous, furious and unfaithful. He is my favorite character in the play. And, of course, because of that Russian musical. My favorite singer played his role perfectly! In fact all these Russian singers and actors made the best show ever created by this book. They played all the characters just like the author showed them in this book.

I feel so happy I read this play finally after so many years. It was so entertaining and it gave me so much feelings and joy.

Jesús Hernández "Valkirija"

First of all why I liked this book, was that it was very easy to read. Author perfectly described historical events to "simple" people to understand. Now I know more things about history. I think if there were such books while I was in school, I could get best marks, because at school I didn't understand anything about history, it was "dark forest" to me. And such books like this made me to understand so many things. I liked that author used these artistic features in writing to describe history, these sentences with feelings...I don't know how to express... these feelings made me shiver, even cry. Now I have huge wish to visit Berlin and famous place in Poland. I want to see and feel everything myself.

In Lithuanian translation edition are colorful pictures in a middle of book, which I really liked to watch and imagine every scenes in my head.

Now after this book I want to read more books about Second World War.

Anne Rice "Pandora"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

So I finished reading this book. That's good old Anne Rice style.
I imagined Pandora as some cold woman. But in her story I saw she was a strong Roman woman, who was well educated, always told her opinion, loved to read books and maybe was even smarter than any man. I just love her feministic side mixed with her passionate side. Maybe Pandora fell too deep into religious things and I think Marius had all rights to argue with her telling what nonsences all cults are.

The whole storyline was great in my opinion. I liked many historical persons, philosophy and so many feelings. But the book ended so fast. I think it was an amazing story if I started to feel emptiness after reading it and thinking why it ended so fast.

And this book gave me so many feelings... Pandora reminded me of my beloved one whom I called my beloved Pandora as in the last pages of book. It was some personal feelings I found in this story. And love scenes made me shiver. I saw how Marius and Pandora were bond to each other. A true love bond.

So in conclusion I shall say that this book was amazing, touching heart and giving so many feelings, so much "food for your brains".

Friedrich Nietzsche "Antikristas"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

From first sentences it was really hard to understand his philosophy, but more I read, more I liked it. I wouldn't recommend this book for very religious Catholic. It is very rebel book even in our days. I agree with many of author's thoughts. Christianity is "disease" which makes us mental patients. It is really impossible to describe this book. It is really not for everybody to read. It can insult and also inspire to be independent person. Besides you must very concentrate on reading this book because it is high philosophy.

I really liked where author showed that in ancient Hindian book was showed that women are good and have pure body and Christianity makes it different. Author really has more love for orient religions than our Western religions. It is also quite strange that German philosopher "hates" Germans. But that made me quite inspired. So to hate your own nation is not so bad. I understand his thoughts about his own nations. You understand people with who you live so you better see them. So you can find things about them to hate very easily. I think it has exuse to hate your nation. You simply know them too good.

Well, I liked this book because I'm not very religious and I have now many thoughts in my head to think about life.

Anne Rice "Blood Canticle"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

So here I finished last book of Vampire Chronicles.
First pages made me laugh how childish Lestat acts. I think it might be childish to dream to be a saint, but in other ways he just wants to help people. Which is nice. But I started to miss good old Lestat. He changed over all books. No more that arrogant Frenchman. Mona...yeah... I cannot stand her the same as Rowan. I already got my opinion in "Blackwood Farm".
Umm.. Taltos, yes. That was the most interesting part of the book. I enjoyed reading how they look like, how they act, their history. The plot was great too, I think it was a book mostly full of action of all Vampire Chronicles. But I really missed how Louis and David lives.... I missed good old characters. And Armand? Marius?
And the end of book? Sad. Very sad. Maybe too sad. In fact, it's a book that isn't easy to read. But I very liked it because of so much action and something complitely new.

William Shakespeare "Venecijos pirklys"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I remember when I first time saw a movie by this play. I fell in love with story. And I was looking for translation to read, but nowhere I could find. One day was lucky of my life and I found this book in bookstore, so I bought it. But just today I read it.
I loved the way of classical storyline, interesting plot and characters. I really understand a jew man. I think he is one of my litareture twins. I perfectly understand his wish to get truth for insults. But I was fascinated that in such times when Shakespeare wrote this play, he showed how smart women are and I fell in love with this play even more. It is one more proof women were abused in old days, they could be better jawyers and scientists than any man. Maybe we lost many amazing inventions and many innocent people rotted in jails because of how men worked these days. Women pay more attendion to details. And I have to think now that Shakespeare probably had something in mind about education system these days.
I always loved the way showing this idilic friendship. Nowadays there little people in the world who would risk their own life for friends. Nowadays people just run away and leave friends in trouble. I liked the way main characters helped each other even risking their own marriage. And women acted really smart by "checking" their husbands' faithfulness. And it was really smart of three chests. I showed that true love does not need treasures. I think I like Shakespeare because he never wrote such things like description of buildings, cities, weather that much or at all. I like the way he writoe about feelings and smart "lessons of life".

Anne Rice "Blackwood Farm"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I don't know... a book is written marvelous, all the adventures, story of Quinn, action, not a single boring sentence...but I simply didn't like how Quinn's life turned on. And Lestat's... but I don't like Quinn with Mona and Lestat with Rowan (which will happen in last book). I will never accept these relationships. Besides... Lestat TWICE said HE LOVES QUINN. And Quinn like a puppy runs to that Mona. Who needs mortal family when you are a vampire? Just go, hunt, visit countries, have money, do whatever you wish, but that silly boy sits with mortals. More pathetic than Louis.

Oh well. It is a book. It is supposed to make you feel something and get an opinion on it. I know because I'm a writer myself and I know I make same dramas, same revenges, same relationships that my readers gonna hate and love. But this is life, I know nobody would read a book where everybody would be happy and live forever same as every day. So in the story there must be different characters, different life stories, different things to make a book colorful and splendid. Well, if I read this book in A MONTH, it means it was good. Usually I read such thick books for half year because of so many pages. But this one I just "ate". It simply had the magic inside to call me home from work and make me read it. It had magic to make me live without food for hours because I simply couldn't put it down. Who needs food when you have more secrets to reveal? I think I need more of such books to help me lose more weight.

So in conclusion, I was amazed by this book. I think it was best of all I read from this serie. It had enough action and secrets not to feel bored. It was enough interesting for me. I think it is first time in my life that I sit now and look on this closed book and think: "God, why you had to end so fast? Why you couldn't last forever?". And I am always glad to finish a book and take a new, but this one.... It has magic inside that you cannot stop reading it. I really wouldn't mind if "Blackwood Farm" would be 700 pages more longer. I always get bored of books which have more than 400 pages, but not this one. No. I will miss it dearly... Oh well. I better should start "Blood Canticle". Maybe it will great too.

YAY. :D I am so happy I read it. It was amazing!!!! I spent all morning reading this book. I started reading just when mailwoman brought me my mail and I unpacked this book, I started to read it like a mad and I couldn't even go to eat, because it was so interesting. I just loved in this volume was so much told about Middle Ages and Lithuania finally showed as brave warrior. That's the spirit of us Lithuanians! We are brave and fearless, we fight and fight to be free and strong. And it was so much about France and Prussia an many other countries. I just missed much more about England, Russia and America... And it was interesting to read about Nordic Brothers. :) And I just loved pages where it was written how other countries say names of their neighbours in their language. I just noticed that where was Lithuania's page, it might be the author or printing made mistake. :( France is PRANCŪZIJA in Lithuanian, and they wrote PRANCUZIJA. Oh well... It was just one letter wrong.

But in all case I LOVED ALL BOOK. :) So interesting and funny. I had great morning reading it.

C.S. Lewis "Kipšo laiškai"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

This book was very philosophical. But not very hard to read or understand. It made me understand how low our society is and that evil is "feeding" from us.

Of course this book is about religion, but I shouldn't say that TOO MUCH. It is quite interesting. Especially for people who want to read books that make you think about your own life. And all serious things are showed in British humor. That entertained me a lot. But book gave me different feelings and opinions. With some sayings I agree, with others I don't. Of course as a human I think about myself good and I think all I do is good and others are bad because they are not like me. I really don't know if we, humans, need to try to find out such things behind our physical life. But we are curious. We want to know about demons, angels, God, Devil. But is it worth? Maybe it is better do what you like to do. But again I see another side in this- curiosity. Human is born to be curious and investigate all mysterious things in life. So it is really interesting to know who is ruling us and where we will go after death. We all want to know everything, but unfortunately we cannot.

Anne Rice "Blood and Gold"

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

All I can say is that I really loved this book. I finally knew all the story of Marius and Bianca. I found out so much of characters I knew just names.

I remember the scene with Zenobia that made me cry. It was so beautiful. And Bianca who saved Marius. And poor Armand. But mostly I paid attention on Marius and Pandora. They reminded me of myself and a girl I dated. She was real Pandora, and I was like Marius- begged her to stay with me, looked for her...but we still broke up.

I could understand and Bianca's jealousy. Bianca is really feminine and knows that no man can betray her. Well, Marius looks "good-evil". He can be very gently and loving, but also very evil and cruel. So I don't know if I like him or not. But probably I do. I was very sad when he lost his all books and paintings. I can imagine his pain.

In any case the whole book was very interesting, I enjoyed it very much. Now when I finished it, I have many thoughts in my head and I think "What I could do if I was one of the characters?". The end of the book was quite...strange. I was a little bit shocked and didn't expect such ending. (Maybe because I forgot to ask my friends who read this book more details, I asked my all friends who read every book of VC to tell me every single detail before I started reading). And I'm very sad about Santino's death.... I think Marius had to forgive him, because Santino helped him after all to repay for Armand. But how I can judge Marius of this revenge Thorne did for him, when I, myself, cannot forgive my enemies?

In summary, I think this book is very good to understand such emotions like anger, revenge, love, hate, solitude... I would never forget this book. It is locked in my heart forever. I bow for all Anne Rice works, because none of her books disappoint me. I loved all of them.
