Since Anne Rice is my favorite author and inspiring person- I have no idea where to start my review...
1.
It was very difficult to read this book. My English level is B2.22, but
the grammar was pretty “high-class” for me. That’s why it took me 9
months to read this book.
2. During this long period of reading,
I laid my eyes on reviews and… when I noticed so many people writing
negative reviews, I lost interest in this book… For many months it was
simply laying on my table and I couldn’t read it. Until I decided to
stop paying attention to that negativity and finish it myself.
So
here I was back to reading this book. More than half of the book seemed
pretty boring to me. And only when Kapetria’s story started- I felt
interest and motivation to keep reading. The best part started only at
28th chapter where ALL things started to fall in places. Only from this
chapter my eyes opened and I saw the True Meaning of the entire series!
That moment I let my mind wonder through all 11 books and connect all
the dots together. Then I understood how MARVELOUS this book is despite
the negative reviews. Was she planning all of this since the beginning of VC, or did she just come up with this idea last year?
Many
readers complain that sci-fiction in VC was a true nonsense. NOT AT
ALL! The science Anne Rice used perfectly fell in the place. After all,
the last two books of VC are set in 21st century. So what did you
expect? That the vampires will be living under a rock and won’t know
anything about medicine and science of this century? It would be more
idiotic if they wouldn’t know such things. Maybe it’s unusual to see
sci-fiction elements in a book about vampires, but I was amazed how Anne
Rice managed to mix modern science with her fictional world.
Now
about all this “aliens” part… From first it sounded weird to me, but as
the story goes, everything falls into places. The only thing I was
unhappy to read: aliens and their views of religion. As a very religious
Catholic I felt hurt. But according these were thoughts of “Aliens”, so
I brushed the painful thoughts away from my mind. Then I came up with
the sentence that made me cheer: “There are many worlds in the “Realm of Worlds” where the ascendant beings are not male or female.” Thanks you, Anne Rice, you cannot imagine how much this one short sentence means to me.
And
so, at the end of all this… It was a very interesting book, unusual in
such genre, the end was pretty predictable…. And so here I came a
question: is this the last book? Because the last chapter made me think
of another book coming and probably going to be dedicated to… Memnoch. I
noticed that Memnoch must play a huge part in future…. (I will leave this as my future prediction and see if it will come truth or not)
